Comme des Garcons, it is the brand found by Rei Kawakubo in 1973. In French, Comme des Garcons means “Like the boys”. Rei Kawakubo, with her signature short even level fringe short hair and all in black dressing style.
In her brain, there are lots of unusual thoughts going on which create a blaze of new vision in fashion world. She studied in fine arts and literature for her university degree but not in fashion background, she worked in a textile company and freelance stylist before she started her own business. For her own belief, she never does something really fashion; her design start from black, dark grey with unfinished framed or hole on the side with asymmetrical shape in 1980’s. She said “My design process never starts or finished. I am always hoping to find something through the mere act of living my daily life. I do not work from a desk, and do not have an exact starting point for any collection. “ “ There is never a moment when I think this is working, this is clear. If for one second I think something is finished, the next thing would be impossible to do. “ because there is no restriction in her unlimited ideas, she does not set any boundaries and drew any fine line of her design; let’s why she can create different possibilities. Therefore, she rarely interviewed by people; for her design, she don’t like the concept been understand too well. Instead of using your brain thinking of all the meaning, but how about feel it with your heart.
Let’s us review her Spring summer 2013 and Autumn Winter 2012 collection.
The spring summer 2013 collection has shown in Paris fashion week, the show start from white folding patching dress on slow moving models, the colour move from white, black, and with a mix of red, purple, and the end goes back to white. The pace becomes faster and faster which depicting the fast fashion world that we are living in. People want more, the endless desire will never end. As we can seen the design from the beginning is simple but it finished in the piece of quirky dress with the sleeve stitch on the chest. It represented the pressure of fashion world which cause people over thinking and forget what they want originally.
I love her Autumn Winter 2012 runway show, “ the world is two-dimensional” is the main topic of the show. Without fancy music, it started from a model with oversize red coat dress. The dress looks like two cutting paper and put together as a paper doll that used to play. And the cartoon look silhouettes decorated with floral, leopard and plaids prints.
