西畠清順, 他並不只是花藝設計師,植物學家,造景設計師. 他是上知天文, 下知地理的植物獵人. 身為植物獵人, 不僅需具備過人的知識, 並且有大膽的勇氣, 無比的好奇心. 植物獵人此名詞是自從歐洲文藝復興時代開始, 歐洲貴族喜歡種植東方的稀有植物來彰顯個人的獨特的品味. 在<植物王國,朝聖之旅>內的序言有提到” 植物獵人們一定具備出眾的勇氣,決心. 再加上謙虛. 所有偉大的探索者都是謙虛的,才塑造了偉大的植物獵人.

Nishihata, he is not only floral artiest but also botanist and landscaping artist. Most importantly,  he is plant hunter who equip with unlimited astronomical and geography knowledge. Having great knowledge is basic, being a plant artist need to have full courage and characteristic of curiosity. The term plant hunter appeared from European Renaissance age, rare eastern plant symbolise superior taste of noble people. In the book <Plant Kingdom, Pilgrimage trip>, the preface mention “ Being a plant hunter, you have to be brave, determinate and humble. Most of the successful explorers are modest, this is how nature plant hunter was born.”

西畠清順出生於百年花藝老鋪-花宇, 雖然天天沈浸在植物的氛圍中,西畠清順並不是從小就對園藝有興趣. 直到21歲時, 他背起背包到各個國家冒險. 旅行到東南亞加里曼丹島. 父親在電話中告訴他一定要去基納巴盧山見識一下世界上最大的食肉植物豬籠草. 穿著簡單的T-Shirt和帶著指南針就要攻上東南亞的最高峰. 在當他見到傳說中最大的食肉植物的時候徹底的被震撼了. 在那趟旅行之後, 西畠清順回到日本, 加入花宇成為學徒. 不停地學習和認真的工作, 也與父親前往世界各地累積當地的植物知識,並學習如何與當地人談判獲取合適的價格. 這個工作就像前面提到的,有著對充足的知識並不夠,而是要有不怕死的決心. 西栽清順在追逐稀有植物的過程中, 也遇充滿危機. 要爬上50米高的斷崖, 潛入無人島, 在南阿爾卑斯山遇到野熊, 加里曼丹島被蟻群攻擊而臥病在床好幾天. 儘管如此, 西栽清順對於稀有植物總是存在著無比的熱情, “發現某種稀有植物時,我經常會興奮地跳起來.”

Nishihata was born in hundred old plant wholesaler company – Hanau. Even he grew up surrounded by plants, he has no interest in gardening. Until when he turned 21 years old, he backpacked to different countries. When he traveled to Borneo, his father told him to see the world largest pitcher plant on Mount Kinabalu. Nishihata wore simple t-shirt with compass and he conquered the highest mountain in Southeast Asia. When he saw the legend pitcher hunter, he was beyond impress. After the travelled, he joined Hanau as an apprentice .He work extra hard and learn from different masters. Moreover, he travelled to various countries to accumulate local botanical knowledge and learn how to negotiate best price with local people with his father. As mention, having substantial knowledge is basic as a plant hunter, knowing how to tackle the dangerous situation is also indispensable. Nishihata have to climbed up to over 50 meters high cliff, explored deserted island, encountered wild bear unarmed in Mount Alpen and even attacked by poison ants in Kalimantan. Even experienced all the danger, Nishihata continue searching rare plant with passion. “ When I discovered rare plants, I always jump like a child with happiness” he said.

西畠清順為花宇的第五代傳人,業務不僅止於販售植物鮮花給客戶,而是替展覽,活動或公共設施進行植物空間設計. 另外還成立了植栽咨詢公司- 天空植物園. 第一個專案庭院是位在於東京<代代木Village>,在繁忙的都市中用各國的植物創造一個都市綠洲. 在西栽清順接手此專案時,裡面的餐廳,甜點店,生活概念店等等都已經裝修完成. 他的設計理念是共存, 即便現有的空間已經確立, 他也可以把各種植物好無違和的融合在內. 他也希望能朝著綠化都市發展, 讓不同的植物在各個角落與人們自然的和平共處. 借由這些喚醒人們對環境保護和議題的重視.

Nishihata was born as the fifth generation of Hanau, Hanau not only supply all kinds of plants but also design exhibitions, events or public space with plants. In addition, Nishihata set up a botanical consulting company call Sora botanical garden. The first project is to create a city oasis in Tokyo entertainment park call Yoyogi village. By the time he take over the project, most of the shops, restaurant and select shops in the park were settled. With “coexist” as the core concept, existed design will not affect his idea. He integrate the plant into the space without conflict. Nishihata aim to develop city greenery; by placing different plants into people life will arose the attention of environmental protection and issues.

2016年西畠清順順受邀設計House Vision展覽會場, 在會場內有一棵美麗的橄欖樹, 是西畠清順從西班牙遠渡重洋運送回來, 這棵樹齡接近1000年的古樹原本已經接近枯死,在西畠清順的巧手照料之下竟然起死回生,樹頭上長滿白花, 並結成一顆顆的橄欖. 西栽清順了解植物的能力可說是超能力了,看一下頂部的樹葉就知道這棵樹物在一年內長高了幾公分, 還設計一套獨有的計算公式可以精確算出樹木的體積,聞一下樹根的氣味就可以知道樹木移植後的存活率.

In 2016, Nishihata was invited to design House Vision exhibition venue. There was a elegant spanish olive tree stand straight up powerfully, and you will never imagine when Nishihata first met this thousand year old tree, the tree is nearly dead. But after Nishihata magical hand, he bring the tree back to life and tree were full of olive flower. I would believe Nishihata has the superpower in take care the plants. When he see the leaf on the top up the tree, he know how much the tree grew in a year.  And he also design a formula to calculate the measurement of the tree; even more, he just need to smell the root and he can foresee if the plant will survive after transplant.

西畠清順也曾來訪過台灣數次, 他認為台灣有需多綠化的設計, 不過缺少了多樣性, 各個公園,辦公大樓,街上的綠意造景都非常的類似. 他說的沒有錯,的確是缺少了時尚和精緻感. 在充滿鋼筋水泥的大城市中,增添多一點植物的脈動,一定可以舒緩城市人的緊繃情緒,在繁忙的空間中喘息. 西畠清順說道:”我期待著某個天才的出現,他應該感性和理性兼備,腦袋好使,非常厲害. 在這之前,我會將植物作為工具進行各種各樣的嘗試,我期待他能更好地改造這個世界” 但我認為他口中的這個天才非他莫屬.

Nishihata visited Taiwan various times, he think there are lots of greenery design but lack of diversity. All the plant landscaping in the park, business building and streets look similar. I am agree with his observation, it short of a sense of fashion or delicate feeling. I believe adding more nature plants in concrete city will relive the tension between people and find a greenery corner to relax. “ I am looking forward to see a genius who is rational but also emotional balance, with clever brain and super intelligent. Before that I will try my best to make use of all kinds of plants to change people life, but I am waiting for that type of people who can change the world” said Nishihata. But I believe Nishihata is already a great genius he is taking about.
